Frequently Asked Questions

I’m confused and I don’t know what type of therapy is right for me. Can you help?

Please don’t worry – we’ll work together to determine the right course of therapy. Prior to booking your first appointment, you’ll receive an intake form where you’ll have the opportunity to share any details you think may be helpful. Then, following an initial assessment, I’ll be able to offer more accurate advice about the best therapeutic approach for you and the number of sessions you might need.

How much do sessions cost?
  • CBT (50-60 minutes) £90
  • EMDR (60 minutes) £90
  • EMDR (90 minutes) £135

Clinical Supervision Services

  • CBT (60 minutes) £75
  • EMDR (60 minutes) £80
  • Group Supervision (POA)
How and when do I pay for a session?

To secure your appointment, sessions are payable via bank transfer (BACS) at least 48 hours in advance. If payment is not received in advance of the session, with regret, I cannot hold your preferred time slot and your appointment will be cancelled.

Why should I choose private therapy?

Private therapy allows you to choose the frequency and duration of therapy without any restrictions as to the number of sessions you can have. You can choose your therapist, and with their guidance, the type of therapy you have. Most importantly, you remain in control of your well-being journey throughout.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes. Currently, sessions are available at our lovely therapy space in Liverpool, or remotely via Zoom.

Is online therapy effective?

Yes, there’s a wealth of research that has shown the same results can be achieved in both online sessions and in-person sessions. I have been delivering therapy in this way successfully for several years now.

How long does a typical session last?
  • CBT – 50 minutes
  • EMDR – 60 minutes
  • EMDR (extended reprocessing session) – 90mins
  • CBT supervision or EMDR consultation - typically 60 minutes, but please contact me to discuss your requirements.
How many sessions will I need?

This varies from one person to the next, depending on their individual circumstances. All courses of therapy will be tailored to meet your specific needs and I will be able to advise you more accurately following your initial assessment.

Am I free to stop therapy at any time?

Yes, absolutely. You are free to discontinue therapy at any time, for any reason.

What happens if I need to cancel an appointment?

Please get in touch as soon as possible if you are unable to attend your appointment. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged at the full session rate.

Do I need to bring anything to my first appointment?

You will need to provide contact details for yourself, an emergency contact and your GP. We’ll also need details of any medication you’re currently taking.
Please be assured that we would only liaise with your GP in the event of a concern for your safety.

Do you work with children?

Currently, I work with adults aged 18 and over. In the future, I may work with associate practitioners who do work with children, in which case this website will be updated accordingly.

Are your services confidential?

Yes, absolutely. I work under the strict confidentiality guidelines of my accrediting bodies, the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and the EMDR Association UK.

There are some exceptions where I would be unable to maintain the confidentiality of our sessions. For example, if I were concerned that you or somebody else may be at risk of harm, or if a court of law compelled me to do so.

Do you provide a crisis service?

Touchstone Therapy Centre is unable to provide a crisis intervention service. If you are based in the U.K. and require urgent mental health support, please either attend your local A&E department, call 999, text SHOUT to 85258 or call Samaritans free on 116 123 (24/7, 365 days a year).
